MARC Classification and Subjects

The classification recommended by the Library of Congress in most case will have a / as part of the returned value.  For example this classification might be returned 123/.456.  The slash is what the Library of Congress deems is good separation point for different size libraries.  Libraries with small collections can use the Dewey Decimal number to the left of the slash, 123.  Larger libraries may want to use all of the number after having removed the slash.  IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE SLASH IS NOT PART OF THE DEWEY DECIMAL NUMBERING SYSTEM.  The red warning will not be changed until the slash is removed as a constant reminder to do so.

I know some churches will not want to use the subjects suggested by the Library of Congress.  In this case the LC suggestions will have to be deleted before the Save button is clicked.  Once the Save button has been clicked the LC subjects will be added to the MLM database.
