When a new resource is being added the status field is not available. The status field should remain blank as long as the resource is in good condition and available to be checked out by a patron. This is because it is assumed you would not be adding a resource to your library that is not in good condition. But there will be a time when a book or DVD is damaged. Particularly a book. Most libraries have a repair area. There must be at least one entry.
Maintian status options
The current status of the resource is important. What the status is will help determine where or in what condition the resource may be. Other entries can indicate any individual resource that is a special case. It may be damaged, or missing, for instance.
The status and the location fields in the resource record together when properly updated will let you know where and the condition of resource. It is important that this information be maintained. If a resource has been repaired and is available for circulation you must delete the status field for that resource.
