General Program Hints

New in version 6.0 is a spell checker.  You must have MS Word 2000 or greater installed on your computer.  To start the spell checker first click on the text field to search and press the F7 function key.

Every button and entry field has a hot tip associated with it.  This hot tip gives you information about either what to enter in the field, or what the button does, or what other features are available for the control.

All entry fields in blue are required.  Some need data in them and others need specific data related to other files.  For example every book must have a title! The title field is required and is blue.  Every book must have an author!  There is a Find button to help in locating the correct author.

Most entry fields will automatically capitalize correctly as data is being entered.  Please set the CAPS LOCK key off.  If left on it will interfere with using the auto complete function.

When entering the name of a message the prefix of An, The, or A will be moved to the end and be separated by a comma.  The same is true when entering the title of a book.  Remember when doing a title search to NOT include these leading words.

All date fields have a calendar lookup next to the field.   There is a short cut to entering dates, enter the month and day, 0101, and then press enter or the tab key and the current year will be filled in automatically.

Not everyone is familiar with the in and outs of windows and how windows applications work.  To help with this problem I have added a few details in the following paragraphs.  First, the entry field where the cursor is located is colored differently than the others.  On most monitors the color will be yellow or a burnt yellow.  Required fields will be colored aqua.

Almost all buttons have a hot key defined which allows you to use the keyboard to access the feature of the button.  The hot key letter is underlined.  For example the Add button has the defined hot key as ALT A.  Hold the ALt key and press the letter A at the same time.  This will open the associated window to enter a new record.
