When entering a new sermon the following information is needed:
Creation date - will automatically use the current system date.  If you are cataloging older sermons the date can be changed to another.
Message - or title of this sermon.
Part number - if the sermon is to be a series with this message enter a number.  When doing a series always have the message start with the same text.  This will ensure part of the message will remain with all the other parts.
Primary biblical reference - It is assumed this will be one of the books of the Bible. As you begin typing a name of a book a drop-down list will give you a list of all the books matching what has been typed.  If you are familiar with the auto entry feature of many windows programs you will know what to expect.  As you type the list of matches will decrease until only one remains.
Enter the beginning chapter number.
Enter the beginning verse number.
The thru chapter and verse numbers are duplicated unless you changed.

This is the minimum amount of information needed to keep track of a sermon.  But there is so much more that can be entered that is pertinent to any sermon.

This is where all additional biblical references are listed. Click on the Insert button to add any number of additional references.  The necessary information is identical to what was needed for the primary biblical reference.  In addition a note can be added and the biblical text can be copied from your favorite Bible study program and pasted into the Bible Quote entry field. Click the OK button to save this reference.

As mentioned in the introduction having one or more subjects for each sermon is what makes this program work.  Any word or phrase can be used for one or more sermons. (Subjects are also used for your library.)  There is no limit to the total number of subjects or the number of subjects a sermon, or book, may have assigned.

Above depicts two entry fields that are used in conjunction with the favorite word process and favorite presentation program.  Never loose track of one of your sermon document files again.  It is recommended using the message title as the name for your sermon documents and presentation files.  This will at to the organization of The Pastor's Study.  Even if you only use The Pastor's Study to catalog your sermons it is suggested that the sermon and all related document files have the same base name.  Open the document or presentation file related to the current sermon by clicking on one of the following buttons.

In today's technology many churches preserve the sermons of all the pastoral staff using one form or another. Some churches use more than one.  The Method of Preservation indicates if a recording was made and what was the preservation medium.  All of these options can be checked!  In addition there is an entry field for any other method.  (CD-ROM, or computer disk are possibilities.)

Click on the Bible Quote/Outline tab at the top left of the window to access two additional entry fields.  The entry on the left is where the text of your sermon's primary biblical reference can be entered.  You can type it, if you would like.  But using the built-in tools supplied by Windows® you can copy from your favorite Bible study program and paste the text into this space.

The field on the right is a scratch pad available to note your thoughts as you study.

Print Sermon Detail
Click on the print button on the left bottom of the window.  A report with all the information entered will be printed in an easy to use format.  With this report by your side you had all the information needed to complete your sermon and presentation slides.
